Summer legs
All suggestions made in this newsletter are intended to help you to help yourself. If you have any serious doubts about your health, consult a doctor first.
By Anni Dahms
On a train from Fredericia to Copenhagen I met my man who became my husband for 30 years. My tight skirt had slipped well above the knees and legs, which was dressed in black stockings and laid crosswise. When we arrived Copenhagen we became sweethearts and stayed together for many years. His friends later on told me that the first thing he talked about was me nice knees when he described me.
Even with my most positive mind, I must admit that there is far from the legs back then, to how they look today with the swollen ankles in the summer heat, varicose veins and blood blasts, etc.
Anyway I love my feet and legs. When I sit and write this article they have carried me around for 24487 days. They have followed me in everything I have done and often they have been exposed to very heavy load. Sometimes they have tried to show me small signals to tell me that they where in need of extra tenderness, but I ignored them totally.
I have decided to give my legs the tenderness they have asked for so many times before especially now during the summer heat.
The Feet
If you got pain in the feet everything else seems to matter nothing.

According to Louise Hay the feet symbols our understanding of ourselves the life and of each other!
By the way the above – unfortunately we are not always that good to pay attention to our fe et. They are often pressed into shoes they are not happy for. During summer, stilettos are almost a must for many. Use only the stiletto by festive occasions. Scholl has made some very thin gel heel and forefoot cushions which can be of great help and nice to use.
Spoil your feet and bring them into focus ones in a while. Enjoy eventually a visit at the chiropodist where your feet are bathed, massaged, hard skin removed and treated with a moisturizing cream. The nails are fixed and eventually added a nice colour.
It looks good in open shoes or sandals.
Take a daily footbath to keep the effect from the chiropodist. Scholl has a lot of lovely footbath that suits exactly your needs. For instance Fresh step, which is specially to soften your feet and against dry feet or choose a sparkling footbath that stimulates tired and tender feet. If you do not have access to a footbath then try to ad a little oil into hot water.

Hard skin and cracks on the heels
It’s very normal to get hard skin and cracks on the heels. Do something about it before the cracks gets to deep and painful. Find a good foot file that suits you for instance a Carborundum double foot file and use a good heel cream against cracked heals from for instance Dr. Scholl.
Athlete’s foot
Many suffers from athlete’s foot especially now in this hot and humid time of the year. It often appears by people who do sweet a lot or have been on antibiotic. It appears as small cracks on the skin and small painful blisters which liquids. It is important to keep the feet as dry as possible. If you wear socks then use pure cotton socks. Avoid shoes made from synthetic material. Tea Tree Oil can be of great help. You can use a Tea Tree cream or put on the pure oil. If you only use the Tea Tree Oil then it may do you good to put Aloe Vera gel on your feet afterwards. This should be done twice daily.
Regarding your diet – be careful with white bread, products containing yeast and alcohol.
Sweaty feet
Here is a good advice for you if you suffer of sweaty feet. It often helps to put your feet into a footbath added essential lemon oil eventually combined with the juice of a lemon. Dr. Scholl has made a foot spray that fights humid and counteracts bacteria and fungus. You can also get a foot and shoe powder that absorbs the humid. Finally you can get an anti-transparent gel that keeps the feet fresh, try and odourless.
Bunions
It can be extremely painful to have bunions. It often appears when the feet have been squeezed into pointy and narrow shoes. Apart from a medical treatment you can relieve the pain with small bunion plasters. Louise Hay writes that bunions on the big toe may be causal in a lack of appreciation for the things that happens in your life.
After a long day at work
Are tired and don’t have the energy to do anything, are your feet swollen, tired and tortured. Then lean back in the most comfortable chair with your legs up. Relax, forget everything, read a good book or take a nap. If you do not have time or energy to do more about your feet that day then rub them carefully before bedtime for instance with a nice moisturising cream from Dr. Scholl. Massage the tender points gently so you give yourself a mild wonderful form of reflexology or try with a wooden foot roller.
Swollen legs
Do you suffer of swollen legs and ankles during the summer heat, then it may be a good idea to clean out the kidneys. Make a jar of Goldenrod tea in the morning and drink it during the day. It tastes nice, especially if you keep in the refrigerator and drink it as an ice tea. For each 3 cups of Goldenrod tea you drink daily you can add 30 drops of the herbal tincture Nephrosolid from Bioforce. Often this has a very good effect on the legs. If the legs are very swollen, it can be of great help to avoid white bread, pasta and other foodstuff containing white flour. Keep away from candy and other sweat things. Make sure your stomach function properly.
Leg cramps
Leg cramps can be a symptom of lack in magnesium. Use a dosage of 300 mg magnesium x 2 daily. Should always be taken together with calcium and other minerals. Particularly it is a need if you take diuretic medicine as many women does when they suffer of swollen legs.
Tired and heavy legs and varicose veins
For us who have turned 60 and in particularly women and people who are walking and standing all day long tired and heavy legs can turn into a huge problem particularly during the summer heat. Do you have problems with your legs then don’t do like I did when I was young – I ignored it. Listening to your legs, pay them attention and feel if there are beginning circulation dysfunctions or weakness in the veins. A summer dress looks better with smooth healthy legs.
The tablets from New Nordic ”Wonder Legs” contains substances from standardized French maritime pine and standardized red vine leaf that supports the venous blood circulation and may help the blood circulation in the legs and relieve the sensation of heavy and tired legs
Easy leg consists of five different herbs that counteract inflammation and strengthen the veins. The effect of Easy Legs is normally shown within 1-3 month.
Another remedy against heavy end tired legs is Aesculaforce that contains horse chestnut. It’s available as drops and tablets.
Be aware of choosing the right footwear with a maximum height of the heel on 2-3 cm. Here in Spain where the floors are very hard you have to be careful not to stand up for too long periods of time.
Take care that your diet contains sufficient of raw vegetables and fruits and make sure you get your daily multi vitamin and mineral tablet. Vitamin C helps to maintain the suppleness of the tissue and arteries. Remember your exercise and avoid overweight. An easy kind of exercise is where you stretch out the legs by laying on your back and stretch one leg at a time towards the ceiling eventually with a scarf around your foot. You will notice how it tightens well in the back thighs. Afterwards rotate your feet carefully ones each way and after that separate your toes. It may be a little difficult in the beginning but after some practice you will notice how the toes separate. Get a personal guidance from a trained therapist. It can work wonders and give a lot of energy.
Flytelie writes in his book ”When the nature cures” that he has been told that 1 teaspoon of apple cider every morning taken on an empty stomach should have a good effect on varicose veins.
Nurture also you legs with a good oil or cream. I am very bothered with my legs so that’s why I gently stroke them from below and up when I have rubbed them either with a lovely oil or cream. It feels really nice.
Supportive stockings or travel stocks as Dr. Scholl calls them are very nice to wear if your v acation includes many hours on an airplane or car. To support the circulation by long-distance trips either by car or airplane it can also be recommendable with a supplement called Bio-Pygnogenol from Pharma Nord that consist of French maritime pine bark.
I will end this article by quoting Louise Hay. She writes about varicose veins: “You are in a situation you hate. Discouragement. You feel overworked and overwhelmed." She recommends you a new thought pattern that sounds like: ”I Stand up for truth and live and move around with pleasure. I love life and walk freely”
The above is a very thoughtful saying so let the physically and mentally aspects go up in a higher overall this summer. Enjoy the summer, be grateful for every step you take and enjoy life.
