Peter my oldest son has just been visiting us. Peter is allergic towards my two dogs and gets asthma when he is near them. Therefore the house is being cleaned very carefully right before he arrives. I have been a nurse once many years ago at a child department, where there were kids with asthma and that has almost given me a panic for people with asthma. So the dogs are washed and cleaned before he arrives and so are the dogs’ basket, bowl, furniture etc. There is vacuumed and washed in all the corners. Anyway we still have to keep the terrace door open so he can sit in the door and have a conversation with us or we have to dress up for the weather and sit outdoors. Of course his bedroom is always dog free, and he dresses in the bathroom to avoid any dog hair in his bedroom. Since he loves the dogs he sometimes claps them and after that he has to wash his hands.
This time Peters visit went entirely different…
He brought his new girlfriend with him. And those two people where so happy for each other, and they both shone like the sun, and it warmed us all deeply in our hearts. The best was that he did forget all about his asthma. He was seated at the table together with all of us without any windows open and he was completely normal without any sign of sneezing and breathing difficulties – it was just wonderful!
The above is a good example of how the immune system and the mind are connected. Allergy sufferers like Peter are often very sensitive persons. The asthmatic reaction is a consequence of an allergy attack and is often seen by people where a part of them has denied sorrow and a feeling that there is no space for them in life. Other mental factors can be a feeling of guilt and anger.
Of course the asthma is not only mental. Generally it is important to strengthen the immune system. The most common symptoms of allergies are asthma, asthmatic bronchitis, eczema, infantile eczema, hay fever and nettle rash.
In your digestion system there are often condition of leaking mucous membranes in the gut. By these leaking mucous membranes unwanted substances pass the barrier, which is not possible with normal functioning mucous membranes. Many people do not have a healthy intestinal flora, which is very important to keep your immune system strong.
The word allergy originate from Greek and means” Another reaction than normal” and that are what all allergy suffers for sure can confirm.
There are several reasons for allergies for instance a bad balance of vitamins and minerals, old infections that are still a strain for the immune system. It might also be a wrong diet. Genetically factors also play an important role. The chemicals due to environmental pollution from cars, the industry and the agriculture are among the many reasons. Recently I had an experience from a customer who suffered from allergy towards electro smog. It is an allergy to the vibrant rays emanating from our grid, power lines and high frequency electromagnetic fields emanating from mobile transmitters. It’s quite scary!
It is estimated that around every 4th Dane suffers from a problem where allergy/intolerance is involved. The number of these has grown magnificent during the last few years, even though it has been known for thousand of years.
Regarding the food I find many people cannot tolerate diary products and milk proteins and products containing wheat (mostly because of the gluten).
It is important to find out what causes the allergy. When the cause has been located its important to avoid it as much as possible. The must common allergy causing substances are e.g. pollen, house dust, hairs from animals, certain food stuff, perfume, pharmaceuticals etc. Be aware of that there might be a possibility of mercury poisoning from amalgam fillings.
Right now we are in the middle of a wonderful springtime, where the daylight is increasing, the trees and bushes are coming into leaf and everything is very colorful and accompanied by chirping birds. For many people who are exposed to certain trees, bushes and grasses this time of the year means allergy and hay fever with sneezing, red eyes and stuffed noses. Do you suffer from a hay fever in form of pollen allergy be aware of that there might be cross
reactions with some food stuff, and it might be a good idea to avoid those, at least in the pollen season. You can figure out if you have those cross-reactions when you eat a certain kind of food by noticing if the lips are getting swollen and itchy. The itchiness can continue into the mouth and throat and you can almost feel it in the ears.
There might come other diffuse symptoms like diarrhea, hyperactivity, sadness, bad temper, tiredness and fatigue.
Help to help yourself
It can be necessary with antihistamines, and do not stop taking them without having a word with your doctor first. You can easily strengthen your immune system and combine the medical treatment.
It can be very difficult to get the needed help to get rid of an allergy, often you have to play a detective and figure out if there is something that keeps repeating when you feel that something is totally wrong.
First of all you have to think about your food habits, and it might be a good idea to get advice by a professional. Often there are problems with dietary products, wheat, white sugar, colourings and coffee. Avoid those nutrients you can’t tolerate for 3 months, then you can often tolerate the food again but in less quantity.
If it is a pollen allergy there are different methods and supplements you can try like for instance Perilla leaf that contains natural histamine. You can get the remedy in both liquid and capsule form and now also as chewing gum. The effect is often noticed within half an hour. You get the biggest effect of it if you start 10 days before the pollen season.
Nazalese is a product that contains something so simple as cellulose from trees, where you with a puff in each nostril create a barrier that makes it impossible for the pollen to come through to the mast cells and trigger an allergic attack. One puff or two a day can be really effective. Kids and small children can also tolerate the substance.
Diasin is a supplement with a high contains of diaminoxidase and it is good for balancing the body, because it breaks down the histamine from foodstuff, which is rich in histamine etc. sausage, cheese, and tomatoes and so on, in the intestinal system. Dosage is 1 – 3 capsules daily before each meal.
Oralmat is a food supplement derived from rye and it might help to strengthen the immune system.
It is very important that there is a good balance of the vitamins and minerals. Many sensitive people are often short of both vitamins and minerals and the symptoms can many times be relieved dramatically by adding the right food supplements. It is important that there are enough of the vitamins A-B-C-D and E to create a natural barrier in your mucous membranes. The vitamins C and E often seems to lower the body’s contents of histamine. Remember especially the minerals zinc, silicon and magnesium. Magnesium stabilizes the membranes of the cells. Lack of magnesium is common and may worsen an allergy or sensitive tendency. If you have reduced kidney function
be careful by adding magnesium. In some literatures it has been described that shortage of molybdenum seems to increase the tendency towards allergy. Finally the important omega 3 fatty acids have to be taken by all kinds of allergy because it calms dawn an overreacting immune system.
B6 is a natural antihistamine. B6 is especially important by allergies, where there is oedema, which is one of the most common reactions. Besides it contributes also by creating red blood cells, which provides a stronger immune system. The dosage can be between 50 and 200 mg of B6 daily. In my opinion it should always be taken together with vitamin B complex,
otherwise it just creates new imbalances. If your allergy shows symptoms of nettle rash then it might be necessary with 200 mg up to 3 times a day, eventually supplied by extra Vitamin C 1.000-3.000 mg daily.
In some cases it might also be a good idea with supplements of Q10.
Liver problems can act into allergy and intolerance, because it is important that the liver can remove the unknown substances that are absorbed in the intestines even when it is healthy. We do always have to take good care of our liver. Too much food, alcohol and chemicals becomes a big challenge for our liver. Therefore it might be a good idea to take a diet once in a while with supplements containing milk thistle, which regenerates the liver when it has been damaged.
Milk thistle is able in capsules, but also drinkable as tee where you take 1 – 5 cups a day. Feel free to eat plenty of bitter things like grape fruit, blue berry, artichoke, chicory, turmeric and much more.
Like you have to take care of your liver you also have to take care of your adrenals. We often hear more and more about tired adrenals that might help to develop an allergy. A good help for the adrenals is not to push yourself to hard. Make sure to focus on the good things in life, which makes you happy. Take the time you need for yourself, read books and enjoy the company of your dear ones etc. Eat healthy and make sure to get enough sleep at least 8 hours each night.
A few tips
Take care of smoking and limit the intake of alcohol as much as possible. Alcohol might worsen the tendency to develop hypersensitivity.
Lots of people with different kinds of hypersensitivity have found great relief in using acupuncture. Are you allergic to pollen then it might be very effective to have acupuncture treatments in the beginning of the season.
Another suggestion - visit a chiropractor that can adjust your spine.
A teacher in relaxation is often good by asthma.
