Migraine
- A female disease

All suggestions made in this newsletter are intended to help you to help yourself. If you have any serious doubts about your health, consult a doctor first.
By Anni Dahms

It is said that about 70 % of all people suffering from migraine is women. Every 4th female and every 10th male has felt some kind of migraine. Often migraine is considered inherited.
There are different definitions of migraine some of the most common ones are moderate to severe pain, sometimes with a pulse. If you move around it gets stronger. The pain often follows by sensitivity to strong light, smells, nausea and even vomiting. Some migraine attacks can last several days and can get really bad in connection with menstruation. Typically the Migraine starts in the morning. A certain migraine has an aura, followed by vision disturbances and ability to feel. A migraine attack is often followed by severe tiredness; lack of concentration and irritability among other things.
There can be many reasons for migraines. One of them that sometimes is overseen is problems with the gallbladder-meridian which passes through the head-area from outer eye/temple region down over the back of the neck and so on.
It’s often seen that food objects and additives in food can boost an attack. Things like monosodium glutamate, aspartame, artificial colours and e-numbers among others.
The foods that are most known to release an attack is food and drinks containing caffeine, dairy products and additives in general
Migraine can also be caused by allergies towards many things like pollen, pets and fungus. Among other reasons could be stress, medication, weather change... A very simple reason can be a basic lack of magnesium.

Self-Help
There are several things you can do yourself if you suffer from migraines. But it’s also important that you do it with advice from a good GP that you have faith in. You can eventually get a referral to a pain-clinic.
A nutritionist that has experience with migraines can be a big help to support with a good diet. You can write a diary where you write down the subspecies factors that might start a migraine attack like food, lack of sleep, parties with disco music, menstruation, hormone treatments or change of hormone products.

Good supplements

For many suffers it can be preventive with complementary supplements like  Feverfew (Tanacetum Parthenium) the number one natural product that I know to reduce the symptoms. Low amounts of magnesium are often measured in people with migraine attacks. Here it would be an idea to take 600 mg magnesium daily. If that is not enough  B6 with 100 mg can daily be added. Both supplements can be supplied with the amino-acid Taurine with 500mg daily. This three-step combination I have heard could be good.
A supplement of Q 10 can be helpful to reduce migraine because Q 10 boosts the mitochondria in the cells. Doses are here from 100-200 mg daily. Eventually a combination with Riboflavonoid (B2) which is part of the forming of serotonin. Remember when you take large single B vitamin products always to support with a B-complex in order to avoid an imbalance between the different B-vitamins.
It can also be helpful to take a Ginkgo Biloba supplement of 100 – 200 mg daily.
Start with a good multivitamin and mineral product like Omnimin, Spectro, and Mivitotal Plus. Further more add the essential fatty acids. I have good experience with especially large doses of Omega 6. Many experience good results with Acupuncture, Reflexology, and other body-related-therapies.
Remember to drink plenty of water as September is still very warm...

Birkesød - xylitol
In many of the new health books with exciting recipes there are warnings against white sugar. Instead Birkesoed sugar is used which is both 40% fever calories and not harmful for the teeth’s. It looks like and taste like sugar.
Birkesoed’s glucomic  index is 7 and ordinary white sugar has an index on 83.
It is approved by both WHO and FDA as a safe additive in moderate amounts.
The body obtains Birkesoed slowly and the calorie intake is 2.4 calorie per gram.
If you have an unstable and sensitive blood sugar balance you must consider that just a sweet taste can trigger your pancreas. We must take very good care of our pancreas because if it fails it doesn’t help with healthy diet and pure natural products..
Eva Lydeking writes in her book that Xylitol can give increased produce of kidney stones, though only if there is a lack of magnesium and B6.

Ipe Roxo
The other day one of our costumers came in to buy the usual Ipe Roxo. We started chatting and the client told me how it had help with an eczema that had been a problem for a long time on the legs.
I send an inner thanks to the classic Ipe Roxo, which is inner bark of the Brazilian tree Ipe Roxo that grows in the Rainforest.
Ipe Roxo has been known since 1956 as helpful supplement with many different sufferings from cancer to colon infections, tonsillitis, eczema, fungus and several viruses.
Ipe Roxo comes in capsules and tea. Is the suffering serious it can be taken as capsules and as tea both. Doses: Take 6 capsules and 6 cups of tea daily. Personally I recommend clients to drink the tea partly to get the liquid and partly because it is easy obtained and transferred into the cells. It can be consumed warm or cold. It is easy to make a whole pot of tea to drink over the day.
Ipe Roxo is well researched with 1200 studies which confirm what the Indians already knew.
Eva Lydeking has written in one of her books that Ipe Roxo is good to bring if travelling in tropical areas.

As a Doctor and an Alternative practitioner I have always worked according to the concept ”the best from both worlds”. Many places are alternative treatments as the word says an alternative to the established treatment system. It doesn’t have to be like that. Respect for each other an each others knowledge can make a big difference to the one it’s all about namely the one with an ailment/illness. The one who suffer from a temporary medical condition or other problem or the one who wants to take better or different care of them self.
My name is Søs Wollesen, and I am by education a Doctor, Reflexologist and an Acupuncturist. Psychotherapist and Nutritionist are also part of my CV. The mother of two boys and further more a serious long distance runner. I have tort Nutrition and vitamin and mineral therapy for years, done Q & A’s for a sports nutrition company through a couple of years and written many articles for magazines.
I worked several years in the established health system besides running my own clinic where I used the conventual’s as well as the complimentary treatments – ” the best from both worlds”.

I am a 54 year old woman who has suffered the last few years from severe bloatedness, constipation and headaches. I have had check-ups but nothing has been found. My Doctor says that I am probably menopausal.
I am very concerned about this and especially when I want to dress up. Big tummy. Can you give me some advice, please?
Yours sincerely,
Alice

Thank you for your mail.
Lots of thinks happens to our body when we reach the menopause. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t help it a little.
You didn’t tell me anything about your drinking and eating habits or if you are on medication. I will give you a couple of recommendations to start with...  You might have to write me again with further information’s.
If we look a little closer at our diet and drinking habits today we will find that it’s generally very acid forming. That means that the body holds a lot of acid. The human body is very sensitive to the acid-alkaline balance. It takes a lot before the body starts reacting.
Coffee, alcohol, sugar, white rice, sour milk products and soft drinks are just a few examples of acid forming foods. Whole grains and vegetables and hard psychical work are not always present in our daily chores. And that burdens the body a great deal.
I recommend you to make porridge of whole grains for a period of 3-4 weeks, cut down on coffee/tea and reduce intake of sugar and drink plenty of water. Excessive 3-4 times a week, it can be anything but make sure that you get the pulse up and some sweating going on.
You can also take some supplement  for instance Alkaline tea or a product called Basica to boost the alkaline effect in the body and help to reduce the build up of acid. An extra supplement of magnesium and calcium (more than the daily dose), an increased dose of vitamin C which you find in Dol-C-Min from Biosym and a generally wholesome vitamin/mineral supplement plus a large dose of omega 3 and omega 6 (6-8 gram) like you find in Ultra 3/6/9 .
It can be necessary to repeat this program after a couple of weeks.
A change of colour of the waste products are normal and not a sign of overdose, but a sign that the body is working with what you are giving it! ?
If you are on medication you must confirm with you GP before you start.
Yours truly,
Søs

I am a 62 year old man. My skin has started to itch with many dry spots in my face and my legs. I am not much for crème and that kind of things. My wife tells me that there are other things I can do. Is that right?
Ps. I am not on any medication and I eat relatively healthy.
Yours sincerely,
Jens

Dear Jens
Thank you for your mail.
You wife is right. There are alternatives to crème. You can use oils which are specially developed to use in the shower or to add directly on your skin. It is of course important that you get a check-up to make sure that you do not have a skin condition that requires a medical treatment or allergy of some kind.
You tell me that you eat relatively well and that pleases me, but I will give you a couple of health advices anyway.
Reduce your intake of meat, wheat and sugar for a while. A good salad with a good cold pressed oil like Udo’s Oil or sunflower oil spread over to help the body to absorb the vitamins together with the fatty acids. Drink 2 litre of good water daily. And not too much coffee and alcohol.
Further more try an extra intake of omega 6. It comes mainly from plants. You get it as a supplement in capsules for instance Bio-Glandin from Pharma Nord to secure a regular dose. Take 2-3 capsules daily for a period of 2-3month. No coffee or tea ½ an hour before and after intake.
Many studies show a good effect from omega 6 on skin conditions, among them is itching in general.

Yours truly,
Søs

Pomegranate juice

Is available as juice and capsules.
These beautiful red seeds from pomegranate taste sourly, fresh and good, with a very high concentration of antioxidants.
It is said that pomegranate juice works against arterioscleroses and a research from California shows that the juice from Pomegranate can help with erectile dysfunction (ED) for men.

Did you know about White Tea?
White Tea contains many more antioxidants than Green Tea, and it is caffeine free.
The White Tea differs from Green Tea with right after the harvest the baby sprouts are steamed and dried with a temperature around 40  degree Celsius which leaves the antioxidants unharmed.
